At Koh Living, we believe storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to connect with each other and the world around us. Aboriginal stories passed down through generations remind us of what matters most - community, culture and country. National Reconciliation Action Week, which runs from 27 May to 3 June, is an opportunity to reflect on these values, celebrate Indigenous culture, and take meaningful steps towards reconciliation.
The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. As Reconciliation Australia say “Bridging Now to Next urges us to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us; at a time when Australia faces uncertainty in its reconciliation journey, this theme calls on all Australians to step forward together.
We are proud to share our commitment through our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), striving for a more connected and harmonious future where the art, stories and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are celebrated every day and enjoyed and appreciated by our customers and gift recipients alike.
Here are 10 meaningful ways to celebrate Reconciliation Action Week and honour Australia’s Indigenous heritage.
1. Support Aboriginal Artists and Their Communities
One of the simplest yet most impactful ways to celebrate is to explore and support Indigenous art. Buying a gift, or something for yourself, inspired by Aboriginal art, such as those at Koh Living, allows you to appreciate unique craftsmanship and directly support Indigenous artists and their communities. Our curated range of meaningful gifts, like our candle holders, scarves, pamper sets, and journals, ensures their stories and traditions are celebrated and preserved. We have also just launched a new range - stunning lip glosses - made in Australia with natural products and adorned with Aboriginal art.

2. Learn About the Traditional Custodians of Your Area
Take the time to research and acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land where you live. Understanding their history and culture is a step towards appreciating the depth of connection they hold with the country. Consider attending a Welcome to Country or Acknowledgement of Country ceremony during the week.
3. Attend Local Events
Look around for events hosted in your community (your Council website is often a good place to start) for art exhibitions, cultural workshops or panel discussions. These are fantastic ways to not only show support but expand your understanding of contemporary and traditional Indigenous culture.
4. Cook with Bush Foods
Celebrate Indigenous food culture by incorporating bush ingredients into your meals. Ingredients like lemon myrtle, Kakadu plum, or wattleseed are rich in flavour and carry centuries of significance in traditional practices. These ingredients also feature in our soaps, hand creams and pamper sets!
5. Engage in Open Conversations
Use this week to talk with friends, family, or colleagues about reconciliation and the importance of building relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Honest, open dialogue sparks awareness and change.
6. Create an Indigenous Art Space
Dedicate a space in your home, office, or community for showcasing Indigenous art or artefacts that reflect cultural stories. It's a simple yet beautiful way to honour and elevate Aboriginal culture in an everyday setting.
7. Dive into Films and Literature
Choose films, documentaries, or books that explore the experiences and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Works by authors like Bruce Pascoe or films such as The Tracker open new perspectives.
8. Organise a Fundraiser
Set up a fundraiser to contribute to organisations that support Aboriginal education, health, and community programs. Whether it’s a morning tea or casual dinner event, every contribution makes a difference.
9. Tune in
Listening to the podcasts highlighted on The Urban List’s compilation is a powerful way to immerse yourself in the stories, experiences, and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. These podcasts offer insightful discussions on culture, history, current events, and personal journeys, fostering understanding and empathy. By dedicating time to these rich narratives, you broaden your perspective and engage meaningfully with Australia’s First Nations communities. Each episode is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and connect with the wisdom and resilience of these communities in an accessible and impactful way.
