How Do You Connect With Others?
There are many ways we can connect with others and giving gifts is one of those ways. Whether you feel it is your ´language of love` or not, is not relevant - it is about the other person feeling loved in their own ´language of love.` Have we become more connected or disconnected? Looking at the growing statistics for depression and anxiety, one might assume that we are feeling more disconnected than ever. Add this to a lockdown and, not only will those statistics grow 10-fold, so will our feelings of disconnection from our communities.
Giving is an act of kindness that most of us look forward to - an exchange of love.
We all want to purchase that perfect gift. But, taking the time to think about the ‘perfect’ gift is hard in a world that is full of ‘stuff’. There are also time constraints and pressure to make sure that gift is right for the receiver. We live in an increasingly busy, stressful and scary world and it feels as though the simple things in life have been left behind. BUT, there are also positive gifts in every setback. One of the benefits of COVID-19 is that it has made us re-evaluate our values. Setbacks remind us that the most important things in life are family, love, joy, and human connection. COVID-19 is forcing us to slow down - it is only when we slow down that we are more mindful about the people around us and our actions. At that moment, we remember the things for which we are grateful. We feel a desire to give - be it a gift, an act of service, or physical affection - to express our appreciation to those around us.
The divisive and tumultuous world we are living in right now, paints a sharp contrast to the communities of love, and human connection in which we were raised. Disagreements abound over what is fact and what is fiction. But, at the end of the day, we must fight for the things that do matter - community cohesion and spirit, the fundamental building blocks of society. Shouldn´t we seek ways to connect with others, to talk about family and community? Shouldn´t we find ways to work together to find solutions that will help the community at large? Devastation in the business community has been astronomical. Someone needs to shout from the rooftops because the damage is not being taken seriously enough. People are losing their businesses and jobs; mental health has plummeted and suicides have spiralled. Can you think of someone who needs help right now? A simple act of conscious giving (this involves meaningful thought) can go a very long way. When was the last time someone surprised you with a lovely gift? How did that make you feel? Did you feel connected? Did you feel that someone loved you? A small act of kindness can have a huge impact on someone´s wellbeing. Just imagine how you will feel if you offer someone an unexpected gift that comes from the bottom of your heart with no strings attached. It goes both ways. In a world full of ‘stuff,’ conscious giving can be a challenge. So, what has Koh Living done? We have dedicated ourselves to creating the most meaningful art-inspired gifts in the world. Even if you do not know your receiver very well, they will recognise the thought and dedication that went into choosing that gift. We have chosen to use original Australian art (making them timeless). Moreover, our gifts tell traditional Aboriginal stories and are practical (meaning they will use them for years to come). And best of all, from the sale of most of our gifts, we give back to disadvantaged Australian communities. In other words, we strive to offer the most meaningful gifts on the planet!
